Folio 29: William George, aged 63, Seaman; disease or hurt, dyspnoea, remittant pulse, cold, clammy skin, eyes sunken and dull. Taken ill, 17 April 180, off Brest. Died 18 April 1801.

Folio 29: James Aspinall, aged 34, Private Marine; David Flannigan, aged 24, Private Marine; disease or hurt, an ulcer about the size of a sixpence, with hard white edges and dark flabby surface, on the legs, just above the ankle. Taken ill, April. Discharged 29 and 24 April 1801 respectively. Neither cases were put on the sick list but are recorded in the journal as they were both cured by compress of roller without the least confinement, although both had previously been confined with the same complaint.

Folio 29: John Moore, Corporal of Marines; disease or hurt, three shankers [chancres] on the prepuce, epididimus enlarged and painful, inguinal glands enlarged, slight stricture. Taken ill, 6 April 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 18 May 1801.

Folio 29: James Williams, aged 28, Seaman; disease or hurt, a large shanker [chancre] on the [...um] of the prepuce glands right [inguen] enlarged and painful. Taken ill, 8 April 1801. Discharged to duty, 18 May 1801.

Folio 30: John Mellis, aged 34, Seaman; disease or hurt, cough, dyspnoea, head painful, pulse quickened, skin cold and clammy. Taken ill, 1 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 19 May 1801.

Folio 30: William Boon, aged 26, Seaman; disease or hurt, vessels of the adnata torpid, light painful to the eye, profuse flow of tears. Taken ill, 2 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 19 May 1801.

Folio 31: James Cannon, aged 32, Seaman; disease or hurt, vertigo, preceded by a severe pain of the head, for near an hour no other symptom of disease. Taken ill, 2 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 12 May 1801.

Folio 31: Jacob Warfield, aged 38, Private Marine; disease or hurt, slight cough, skin hot, thirsty, pulse quick, bowels regular. Taken ill, 2 May 1801, off Brest. Died 8 May 1801.

Folio 31: John Hales, aged 35, Seaman; disease or hurt, pulse quick, feeble and irregular, skin warm and slightly moist, tongue dry, torpor, pain about the abdomen and breast in particular, thirst, ideas confused. Taken ill, 4 May 1801, off Brest. Died [16 or 9] May 1801.

Folio 32: James Smith, aged 23, Seaman; disease or hurt, vessels of the adnata (left eye) very turgid, light painful, sense of heat in the eye and considerable flow of tears. Taken ill, 4 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 18 May 1801.

Folio 32: Alexander Ross, aged 28, Seaman; disease or hurt, glands of the right inguen, enlarged, inflamed and painful, two shankers [chancres] on the prepuce. Taken ill, 6 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 12 June 1801.

Folio 32: James Donahie, aged 30, Seaman; disease or hurt, the vessels of the tunica albuginsea of both eyes turgid, considerable effusion of tears, sense of heat and pain, incapable of bearing the light. Taken ill, 6 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 3 May 1801.

Folio 33: Henry Ward, aged 34, Seaman; disease or hurt, epidimis and chord of the right testicle enlarged and painful, scrotum inflamed, febrile. Taken ill, 9 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 2 June 1801.

Folio 33: Thomas Rawe [Rowe], aged 14, Boy; disease or hurt, fracture of the ulna of the right arm, by falling down a ladder with his hammock. Taken ill, 10 May 1801, off Brest. Discharged to duty, 22 June 1801.

Folio 33: Samuel Norcott, aged 18, Private Marine; disease or hurt, feeble and frequent pulse, thirst, skin hot, pain in the right side, about the region of the liver. Taken ill, 10 May 1801, off Brest. Died 17 May 1801. Had just been discharged from the sick list recovered from measles when he was found drunk at 4pm and taken to the sick bay, since his hammock was not down. At 5pm he had to be tied to a sofa and vomited but continued to be violently noisy until 10pm when he fell asleep. The next morning he had the symptoms described. The surgeon is 'doubtful whether bleeding in the first instance might have been useful - notwithstanding symptoms of typhus infection appeared afterwards'.

Folio 34: Patrick Shea, aged 35, Seaman; disease or hurt, pain of the right side in the region of the liver impeding respiration, [head] painful, pulse frequent and full, cough with easy expectoration. Taken ill, 20 May 1801, off Brest. Died 26 May 1801.With remarks on the amount of blood taken from the patient and its effect. Great caution should be taken in bleeding a typhus patient.
