Description

Folios 1-2: Charles McArthy, aged 24, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at Deptford; sick or hurt, chilliness succeeded by headache, general soreness and oppression and severe pain in the bowels; put on sick list 7 November 1824, discharged 15 November 1824 to duty.

Folio 2: William Turner, aged 30, sergeant 57th Regiment, taken ill at Sheerness; sick or hurt, diarrhoea accompanied with severe griping pain, stools scanty and dark coloured; put on sick list 17 November 1824, discharged 22 November 1824 to duty.

Folio 3: Samuel Stepbenson, aged 32, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at Sheerness; sick or hurt, intense pain in his temples a sense of constriction of the integuments over the forehead; put on sick list 18 November 1824, discharged 28 November 1824 to duty.

Folios 4-5: M Marwood, aged 26, convict, taken ill at Sheerness; sick or hurt, cynanche parotidea affecting the left side, pain in his forehead and slight pyrexia; put on sick list 19 November 1824, discharged 6 December 1824, experience a second attack the latter end of December but less severity.

Folios 6-7: Job Whitehouse, aged 18, convict, taken ill at Margate Roads; sick or hurt, affected with ague returning every third day, seized with rigors and bilious vomiting; put on sick list 29 November 1824, discharged 13 December 1824 cured.

Folios 7-9: Charles Englebert, aged 24, convict, taken ill at English Channel; sick or hurt, swelling of submaxillary glands on the left side difficult deglutition considerable pyrexia; put on sick list 5 December 1824, discharged 20 January 1825.

Folios 10-13: James Arnold, aged 21, convict, taken ill at English Channel; sick or hurt, cough and profuse but [easy], expectoration particulaly during the night; put on sick list 7 December 1824, died 14 December 1824 at about 12.

Folios 13-14: John Foster, aged 28, convict, taken ill at Mother Bank; sick or hurt, nausea, griping pains and frequent scanty stools with tenesmus; put on sick list 8 December 1824, discharged 20 December 1824.

Folios 15-18: James Sisson, aged 20, convict, taken ill at Mother Bank; sick or hurt, severe pain in the superior part of the trachea, slight swelling of the submaxillary glands and difficult deglutition; put on sick list 13 December 1824, died 18 December 1824 at 4 am.

Folio 19: Joshua Pratt, aged 19, convict, taken ill at Mother Bank; sick or hurt, glandular abscess formed in the right axilla; put on sick list 17 December 1824, discharged 30 December 1824.

Folios 20-21: William Stevenson, aged 11 months, soldier's child, taken ill at Mother Bank; sick or hurt, frequent harassing cough with discharge of saliva dyspnea and general fever; put on sick list 22 December 1824, discharged 4 January 1825.

Folios 21-22: Samuel Shone, aged 27, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, vomiting of grumous blood mixed with bile accompanied by palpitation and pain in the region of the heart; put on sick list 14 January 1825, discharged 21 January 1825.

Folios 22-24: C McCarthy, aged 24, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, received a blow on the back part of his head by a spar; put on sick list 16 January 1825, discharged 10 March 1825 to duty.

Folios 25-27: Charles Thomas, aged 22, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, febrile affection, rigors pain of back, headache, nausea and thirst; put on sick list 30 January 1825, discharged 7 February 1825 convalescent.

Folios 28-29: J Collins, aged 23, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, received a severe contusion of the right testicle against the rail; put on sick list 9 February 1825, discharged 28 February 1825 to duty.

Folios 29-30: Henry Jefkins, aged 55, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, constipation by intemperance, flatulent colic, abdomen much distended; put on sick list 12 February 1825, discharged 20 February 1825 convalescent.

Folio 31: William Johnstone, aged 25, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, griping and purging which increased much during last night with violent retching and vomiting of bilious matter; put on sick list 1 March 1825, discharged 7 March 1825 to duty.

Folio 32: Donald Currie, aged 27, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, vertigo, headach, and general soreness oppression and anxiety; put on sick list 14 March 1825, discharged 22 March 1825.

Folios 33-34: Eliz Sheerston, aged about 1 year old, soldier's child, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, pleuritis, constant dyspnoea and frequent coughing; put on sick list 19 March 1825, died 26 March 1825 at 11 am. The parents refused permission to examine the body.

Folios 34-36: James Hoggot, aged 30, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at Hobart Town; sick or hurt, slight catarrh but the cough attending it continued with considerable expectoration; put on sick list 19 April 1825, sent 19 April 1825 to hospital at Hobert Town.

Folio 37: Edward Jones, aged 17, convict, taken ill at Hobart Town; sick or hurt, inflammation of the submaxillary glands of the left side with considerable symptomatic fever; put on sick list 20 April 1825, sent 20 April 1825 to hospital at Hobert Town.

Folios 38-40: William Stevenson, aged 11 months, soldier's child, taken ill at River Thames; sick or hurt, teething fever; put on sick list 17 November 1824, discharged 22 November 1824.

Folio 38: Henry McGrirkin, aged 27, private 57th Regiment, taken ill at River Thames; sick or hurt, fever from intemperance; put on sick list 18 November 1824, discharged 23 November 1824 to duty.
