Description

Medical journal of the Morley, convict ship from 12 September 1827 to 19 March 1828 by Peter Cunningham, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in conveying convicts to New South Wales. (Described at item level).

Folio 1: case no1; Rosina Smith, aged 18 months, soldier's child, taken ill off Isle of Wight; sick or hurt, diarrhoea, stools green slimy and watery attended with griping pain; put on sick list 15 October 1827, discharged 11 November 1827 cured.

Folio 1: case no 2; Hugh McCann, aged 21, private, taken ill at English Channel; sick or hurt, dysentery, frequent purging attended with severe gripes, stools slimy and exhibiting traces of blood; put on sick list 18 October 1827, discharged 25 November 1827 cured.

Folio 2: case no 3; private Prawal, aged 22, private, taken ill at English Channel; sick or hurt, dysentery, purging and purging, slimy foetid stools with tenesmus; put on sick list 19 October 1827, discharged 12 November 1827 cured.

Folio 2: case no 4; private Dormont, aged 21, private, taken ill at English Channel; sick or hurt, febrile, slight headache, want of appetite, thirst with dry hot skin; put on sick list 22 October 1827, discharged 23 January 1828 cured.

Folio 5: case no 10; Nicholas Fitzpatrick, aged 22, convict, taken ill at Dublin harbour; sick or hurt, constipation and febrile symptoms; put on sick list 26 October 1827, discharged 10 November 1827 cured.

Folio 5: case no 11; V O'Hara, aged 36, convict, taken ill at Dublin harbour; sick or hurt, mercurial affection of the mouth with deranged bowels, took a large quantity of mercury in the hulk for venereal affection which produced violent salivation; put on sick list 26 October 1827, sent 10 March 1828 to Sydney hospital.
