1 individual petition (S Richardson, Officer of Bath) on behalf of Thomas Hardige [Thomas Hartridge] [Thomas Hardinge], haulier, 44 years, convicted at the Somerset Lent Assizes in Taunton in March 1832, for stealing iron. There is also a covering letter from Major General Pigot transferring petition dated 14 September 1832, a reference from [name illegible] the Superintendent of Police, Police Station, Clerkenwell and formerly of the 4th Light Dragoons, on convict's good character. Gaoler's report: character bad, convicted of felony before and imprisoned for 3 months. Grounds for clemency: has served for many years in the 21st Light Dragoons [4th Light Dragoons]; has worked for and been trusted by respectable men including Major General Pigot, Sir William Henry Trent (judge of Bengal), and Captain Lackey in the East Indies; married to a very respectable woman who is in distress; wants to stay in England and go to Milbank Penitentiary. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation, held on Captivity hulk in Devonport. Annotated: nil. GR 34
