1 individual petition (convict and undersigned by 6 people, from Smithfield, London, including the prosecutor (addresses given)) on behalf of John Gurren [John Gurrin], 21 years, servant, convicted at the Old Bailey Sessions on 1 December 1831, for grand larceny - stealing a box of linen [with other items], property of Edmond Bird of Smithfield. Gaoler's report: 'not known before'. Grounds for clemency: previous good character - honest and industrious, first offence; wants to be a useful member of society in him native country; wants to remain in England to be a comfort to his distressed mother in her old age; former employers would take him into their service again. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation, held on Retribution hulk at Sheerness. Annotated: [illegible]. GR 28
