2 individual petitions (the convict in Newgate Prison, undersigned by 9 people from London including the prosecutor (addresses and trades given); the convict on board Retribution hulk, undersigned by 20 people, from London including the prosecutor (addresses and trades given)) on behalf of Thomas Goodman, 19 years, convicted at the Old Bailey Sessions on 12 September 1832, for stealing from the person [pick pocketing] - 1 silk handkerchief, value 2/-, property of William Aldridge. Gaoler's report: 'in prison before'. Grounds for clemency: first offence, recommended to mercy by the jury and prosecutor, only circumstantial evidence against him, became implicated due to a young man named Reading, was unable to produce witnesses at the trial and wants a reduction of his sentence so that he might have the prospect of returning home. Initial sentence: transportation for life. Annotated: ordered to Retribution; nil. GR 27
