Folios 207-207A. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, referring to his enquiry about Mary Ainsworth and family. The Commissioners have taken advice from the War Office and Horse Guards. Only six wives per 100 men are allowed to live in the barracks and be rationed at public expense. At present there are the full number of wives for the 81st Regiment of Foot in Barbados. A wife may apply to the officer commanding the company depot to fill any vacancy which may occur. Wives who are sent out by the parish authorities or by any other means are not allowed into barracks or to be rationed at public expense, and will face great privations. The Commissioners are unable to sanction the sending of Mary Ainsworth and family to Barbados by the Kidderminster guardians. Paper number: 4682/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 530.
