Description

Folio 17: Between 29 January and 12 February 1828 the Bussorah was fitting out at Deptford. On 12 February 1828 the Guards consisting of one Captain, one Ensign, 30 men, 4 women and 5 children joined the ship all well. On 16 February 1828, one of the wives was delivered of a daughter, by the 21 February 1828, the mother was perfectly recovered and moving about on deck, the child doing well. On 20 February 1828 (pm) received 70 male convicts from the Justitia Hulk at Woolwich, 48 men and 22 boys all in good health.

Folios 17-21: Thomas Price, aged 16, convict; case number 1; sick or hurt, diarrhoea and ague quotidian; put on sick list 25 February 1828 off the Isle of Wight. Discharged 28 March 1828 cured.

Folio 21: Between 28 February and 5 April 1828 there were five other cases of ague.

Folio 21: Benjamin Stephens, aged 38, private 39th Regiment suffering with ague.

Folios 22-25: John Renfry, aged 21, convict; case number 2; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 12 April 1828 at sea. Discharged 18 April 1828 cured.

Folio 25: Between 9 March and 9 April 1828 there were 7 cases of common simple fever, and between 12 and 17 April 1828, 4 common inflammations, and one of the congestive form.

Folios 26-29: John Jones, aged 20, convict; case number 3; sick or hurt, opthalmia; put on sick list 28 March 1828 off the Channel. Discharged 30 May 1828 to duty.

Folios 30-36: Robert Gough, aged 40, convict; case number 4; sick or hurt, homiplegia; put on sick list 31 March 1828 at sea. Discharged 12 August 1828 to the Colonial Hospital in Hobart town.

Folios 36-44: William Handford, aged 20, convict; case number 5; sick or hurt, scrophula and dysentery; put on sick list 8 May 1828 at sea. Died 9 July 1828 at 11pm.

Folios 44-50: Richard Larkham, aged 49, convict; case number 6; sick or hurt, dysentery; put on sick list 3 July 1828 at sea. Died 16 July 1828 at 9.30am.

Folio 50-52: Remarks about cases of dysentery, makes reference to death of James Sime on 28 July 1828 and Robert Offer on 1 August 1828.

Folio 52: Remarks about the protracted stay in New South Wales.

Folio 53: A numerical abstract of the medical cases mentioned in the journal nosologically arranged.

Folio 54: Surgeon's general remarks.
