Folios 124A-124B. Petition to the king on behalf of more than 14,000 distressed journeymen silk manufacturers of Spitalfields and its environs, bemoaning the decline in demand for figured velvets, brocades and flowered and other rich silks, partly through the loss of foreign orders, and forecasting poverty, ruin and depopulation in that part of the Metropolis. The petitioners ask for royal adoption and promotion within the Court of these 'ornamental branches of British manufacture'.
