Proceedings of Council. Detailed report by committee of Privy Council regarding William Wood's coining of copper halfpence in Ireland. Report refers to petitions of Irish against Wood and his patent, which they believe had been obtained in a clandestine and unprecedented manner. Includes an assay made of the fineness, value and weight of this copper money by Sir Isaac Newton and others of the Royal Mint. The Commissioners conclude that Wood had not committed any act to invalidate his letters patent, but recommends Wood's suggestion that he does not coin or import into Ireland any copper halfpence or farthings above £40,000. Refers to letters of Carteret of March and April 1724 and to copper money coined for Ireland in reigns of Charles II, James II and William and Mary. Dated at Whitehall.
