From 1900 Office of Land Revenue Records and Enrolments
Part of the responsibility of the manorial bailiff was to collect any sums due from tenants for fines raised by the steward in the manorial courts. The main record of these courts was the official court roll, a copy of which was given to the auditor, but the bailiff also needed a summary record of the fines raised at each court in order to collect them. These summary records are known as estreats, or extracts, of court rolls and it is these that make up this series.
