Description

The series is concerned with matters relating to the property of the benefices. It contains specimens of the following types of records:

Presentation files: papers relating to the benefice, location and reason for the vacancy, value, applications received, offers made, recommendation to the Lord Chancellor by the Ecclesiastical Secretary, fiat and presentation deed. There is also general information on the character of the parish, church practice, parish organisation and the parsonage.

Advowson files: papers relating to the surrender of patronage to another body.

Glebe files: papers relating to the sale of glebe land, its use for other purposes such as quarrying, plans, leases, acquisition of lands and surrenders of leases.

Unions and alterations files: papers relating to alterations to buildings.
