Description

Copy of a letter from John Ostle, Harbour Master at Shields, reporting on the poor state of the moorings intended for the use of HM ships and pointing out that no one appears to be responsible for their upkeep. He recounts difficulties experienced when the Crocodile had to be moved following her launch by her builder, Mr Temple. The moorings are often made use of by merchant vessels but he does not have the authority to prevent them or to cut them adrift. He asks if he, or some other person, may be given responsibility for the upkeep and management of the moorings..
