Description

William Marsden. Have entered into a contract with Mr. Record of Appledore, to build a 32-gun ship for the Navy, since named the Syren, and to launch her in 18 months from September 1805. The Overseer has written that all workmen have been taken off the ship and Mr. Record has quit Appledore and is now incapable of performing the contract. Opine that in the circumstances the building should be abandoned and the suretees should be proceeded against for the amount of the bond raised for the supply of timber. Since Mr. Record failed to find suretees for his contract and the bond for money which would have been advanced for building the Doris, we recommend that this building should also be abandoned
