Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. When the supply of slops was taken out of the contractor's hands and the slop office established for articles purchased and issued under our direction, it was the practice to send an account to the Victualling Commissioners of all beds issued to the Pursers of HM ships, so they were charged at that office. It was found more convenient for this business to be carried on by the Pursers accounting for beds and slops at the same office but John Parry, the Slop Officer Bookeeper, represents that this regulation has greatly increased his business and requests an allowance accordingly. Opine he deserves an increase in his current salary, to be paid out of the Extra charges reserved to pay Slop Office expenses, without charge to the public
