Philip Stephens. George Grave has sent an order from Commodore Proby to David Graves to act as 2nd Lieutenant of the Winchelsea with a certificate from Captain Goodall, Commander of the ship, for the time he acted and asking for David Graves to be paid as Lieutenant. He acted as 2nd Lieutenant of the Winchelsea from February to September 1770 and is borne on a supernumerary list until he was discharged to the ships books as 2nd Lieutenant. He acted in place of Lieutenant Wright lent to the Pembroke in place of Lieutenant Joseph Pennington, who is mustered absent with leave. Mr. Graves is paid as Able in the Pembroke during his Acting as 2nd Lieutenant of the Winchelsea and opine he must be paid the difference by bill.
