Description

Philip Stephens. Receipt of copy memorial from the Lords of the Treasury from the Commissioners of Customs, asking for one of the ships in Ordinary at Plymouth to be used as a lazarette for airing goods as long as the present quarantine shall subsist. We think it improper to appropriate any of HM ships upon the serviceable list for the purpose and any other ship would take longer to repair than the quarantine may last. Recommend the hiring of a vessel would be cheaper and would hope you will not consent to keeping any ships with suspicious goods on board at the Kings Moorings and among the other ships of the Navy, which are visited constantly by the Officers and Workmen from the Yard
