Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. A cooperage is to be built at Weevil to victual the Navy and the Old Cooperage should be fitted for barracks for the Marines on duty at Portsmouth, for which a plan and estimate is to be repaired. Thomas Stanyford reports that the conversion of the late Cooperage into Barracks and an infirmary, will greatly damage his dwelling house and other property. Are sending a plan and profile for the conversion with an alteration to place the Infirmary as much out of the way of Mr. Stanyford but the Portsmouth officers opine it would be better to remove it to some other situation more detached from the inhabitants of the town.. If this is done, the addition to the North West side need not be made. They propose a colonnade at the front of the three sides of the barracks as requested by the Lieutenant Colonel and submit that for consideration
