Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. Lieutenant John Webb, late of the Chatham, has sent a memorial that he hurt his foot on the ship, which obliged him to be sent on shore to Haslar Hospital, where his great toe was cut off and asking to be allowed the expenses he incurred whilst being cured during 18 weeks. The only instance of an allowance of expenses similar to those claimed is the case of Lieutenant Mogg of the Windsor, who in 1735 being on watch, was thrown against one of the quarter deck guns and hurt his right leg. He was left on shore at lodgings for two months attended by Surgeons at his own expense, which for lodging, nursing and medicines amounted to £31.10s. and was allowed by Admiralty order in 1737
