John Clevland. The Britannia, John Smith, Master, appears to have been hired in May 1762 at Philadelphia by Captain Pryce, Agent for transports and is ordered to go from new York to the West Indies under convoy of the Lizard, Enterprize and Porcupine. She was taken by the Modeste a French ship of war and the owners have applied to be paid her value which they are entitled to, if it is found on enquiry at a Court Martial that the Master and men did all in their power to prevent her falling into the hands of the enemy. Ask for a Court Martial to be appointed and Captain Banks of the Lizard, who commanded the convoy, ordered to attend.
