Description (What the record is about)
-
John Clevland. John Skerman, late Gunner of the Porcupine Sloop, was sent with several others to destroy some French vessels at Quebec where he was blown up and taken prisoner and then sent in a cartel to New York. Supposing him to be dead, he was superseded and his effects sold. No account was taken of his stores nor of his predecessors so the Board of Ordnance cannot pass his accounts. How he stands on the books. His servants William Penton and William Edwards were not discharged until the following year when Robert Allen was entered as Gunner in May 1760. Opine he should be continued on the books until being superseded, without passing an account.
