John Clevland. John Smith a Marine, late of the Marlborough, is discharged from her and his wages have been paid to another Marine of the same name. Mr. Tucker, the Pay Master of the Marines, encloses a list of invalids asking what sea pay might be due to them so they can be discharged, on which there was a John Smith. The account delivered by Colonel Rycart says he belonged to the Marlborough for 2 years and nine months so it was taken for granted that John Smith the 1st must be the man who was to be discharged. There are three John Smiths in the list of Marines and the third whose time of service is only from November 1757 to June 1758, has received the wages of John Smith the 1st which is more than was due him. The only way to relieve this man is to pay him the remainder of his pay and the pay that is unpaid of John Smith the 3rd unless the deficiency is made up to him
