Description (What the record is about)
-
Thomas Corbett. There has been an embezzlement of stores from the Portsmouth Storeship. John Dunkin and Peregrine Reeves, Customs Officials, boarded a boat in the Thames and found it loaded with coils of rope with the King's mark and two men and a boy gong on shore at Limehouse. The men escaped but the boy said it had been taken from the Portsmouth. He was taken to Deptford Yard where Mr. Goodwin, the Master Attendant, boarded the Portsmouth. There was no watch on the ship, though the Gunner was found aboard. The rope was being taken to the house of Mrs. Elizabeth Giles and Dunkin and Reeves ordered the Deptford Officers to search her house with a peace officer. The embezzlement was made by Stephen Bradley, midshipman and Alexander Pringle, Boatswain's Mate, both of whom had absconded. Recommend publishing a reward for the offenders
