Description

The series contains administrative files of the County Court Department of the Treasury and of the County Courts Branch of the Lord Chancellor's Department; Treasury circulars and instructions to County Court officers, 1846 to 1906; Home Office orders, 1854 to 1868; a volume giving details of administrative areas; a "museum" collection of court and extraneous documents; and Lord Chancellor's circulars and instructions to county court registrars and high bailiffs. The vast majority of the papers in this series date from the twentieth century

The files now in LCO 8/80-87 were incorrectly re-registered into a new series after the County Courts Branch closed down.
