Sir Warham St Leger to Burghley: messengers cannot go a quarter of a mile outside this town [Cork] without danger to their lives from the traitors and their sympathisers. There have been only two ships bound for England since the departure of Sir John Perot. He asks Burghley to keep the contents of his letters to himself. His writing is not moved by ambition etc. but zeal for the queen. Details of the power of the traitors and the disposition of the counterfeit subjects. Dated at Cork. ff. 57-59
