Folio 131. Letter from Mr Hodges, Ringwood, [Hampshire], reporting that prompt measures have been adopted by the magistrates in the area, and 250 special constables were sworn to assist quelling any 'mobs' that may enter the town from Salisbury, [Wiltshire], or Fordingbridge.
He adds that there have been serious riots in Fordingbridge, but there have also been great numbers of rioters apprehended and taken to Winchester Gaol. On his last visit the town seemed fairly quiet. He finishes by saying that nothing has been set on fire closer than Southampton.
