Description

The correspondence in this series is the general in- and out-letters and indexes of the Lord Chamberlain's Department, covering all aspects of his duties as executive head of the royal household, and as the licensor of entertainments and theatres. Its subject matter is very wide-ranging. It falls into two groups: correspondence up to 1857, and from 1858; with the bulk after 1800.
