Selected case files of actions brought under the Industrial Relations Act 1971, relating to rights in respect of trade union membership, unfair industrial practices in connection with union organisation, or breach of its rules, and inducement of breach of contract.

The files relate only to cases brought under provisions of the Industrial Relations Act 1971, principally the following sections:

  • s5: Rights of workers in respect of trade union membership and activities
  • s66: Unfair industrial practices in connection with principles stated in s.65 (guiding principles for organisations of workers)
  • s96: Inducement of, or threat to induce, breach of contract
  • s107: Complaint by individual of unfair industrial practice under s66 or s70 (unfair industrial practices in connection with principles of s65 or s69 (i.e. guiding principles for organisations of workers or employers), or of breach of rules of an organisation.

The Industrial Relations Act 1971 extended the scope of industrial tribunals to include certain unfair industrial practices, notably matters related to the membership of trade unions. These provisions were repealed by the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1974.
