This series contains a collection of unregistered papers and correspondence from the Private Office on a variety of subjects.

The series includes minister's appointment diaries and unregistered files (dating from 1972-1979) containing papers relating to important legislation and major government initiatives sponsored by the department; regional and overseas visits and speeches made by secretaries of state; papers relating to major industrial disputes, major events and disasters of the period; and the role of the department in the creation of the Health and Safety Commission.
