This series contains, together with related correspondence and papers, a series of unpublished narratives and studies prepared by historians under the direction of the War Cabinet Committee for Control of Official Histories and used in the preparation of several volumes in the Cabinet Office Historical Section Official Histories of the Second World War (Civil) Series. They deal with the war-time responsibilities of the Ministry of Labour and National Service for call-up of the armed services, registration for civilian employment, allocation of available manpower resources to meet the demands of the war production programme and maintenance of essential services and industries, industrial relations and the post-war problems of demobilisation and resettlement.
The series also includes working papers, draft reports, minutes and memoranda of the Production Council, the Labour Supply Board and the Sub-Committee on Preferences in the Allocation of Labour.
