Folios 39-46:
Folio 39: Mathew Bailey, aged 31, private marine; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, this man had been in a catrictic state for some time, had yellowness of the skin complained of loss of appetite and debility with hurried respiration on taking exercise, a pain in the region of the liver and obscure cough without expectoration he had in the course of the preceding twelve months been two or three times attacked with pneumonia for the cure of which he lost considerable quantities of blood he was naturally of a plethoric habit; taken ill, 2 April 1809; died 24 April 1809.
Folio 39: John Neil, aged 30, seaman; taken ill at, Sea; disease or hurt, was seized with chilliness and pain across the loins which was succeeded by flushes of heat and headache. The pulse quick and small in the cold stage. Full and strong in the hot. This man was subject to constriction and pain in the breast which was now something greater than usual; taken ill, 5 April 1809; discharged 12 April 1809 to duty.
Folio 39: Edward Trunder, aged 22, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, large swelling upon the right side of his face extending a considerable way down the neck it was hard and painful; taken ill, 7 April 1809; discharged 6 May 1809 to duty.
Folio 40: Jonathan Burrows, aged 36, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, pain in left side attended with cough and difficulty of breathing; taken ill, 11 April 1809; discharged 3 May 1809 to duty.
Folio 40: Andrew Hilman, aged 34, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, an erysipilatous redness with considerable swelling and pain formed upon the outside of the tibia of the right leg extending from the knee to the ankle joint; taken ill, 14 April 1809; on 13 May doing well in every respect.
Folio 41: Ralph Hodgson, aged 40, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, this man bruised his right foot and great toe by a block the foot became swelled and livid the nail was torn off the toe and it was otherwise lacerated and much wounded a poultice was applied to the toe a little basilicon spread upon lint intervening; taken ill, 15 April 1809; on 13 May appears well.
Folio 41: James Legg, aged 27, boatswain's mate; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, headache and disordered stomach; taken ill, 16 April 1809; discharged 3 May 1809 to duty.
Folio 42: William Cahill, aged 25, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, complains of pain in the left side, cough and impeded respiration; taken ill, 17 April 1809; discharged 9 May 1809 to duty.
Folio 42: Thomas Thompson, aged 40, seaman; taken ill at Majorca; disease or hurt, swelling and redness in the left leg extending over its whole length especially situated upon the out side of the tibia and external side of the upper part of the foot the pain was very considerable and the patient complained of general uneasiness attended with pyrexia; taken ill, 22 April 1809; on 13 [May 1809] doing extremely well.
Folio 43: Thomas West, aged 40, seaman; taken ill at Majorca; disease or hurt, this man of rather a full habit and rigid fibre with sallow dark complexion complains of considerable pain between the shoulders with moist cough and difficulty of breathing; taken ill, 23 April 1809; discharged 12 May 1809 to duty.
Folio 43: Henry Milevard, aged 40, private marine; taken ill at Majorca; disease or hurt, this man in the course of the last 8 months had been two or three times affected with rather slight attacks of pneumonia for the cure of which he lost considerable quantities of blood. The cough after the last attack had never entirely ceased and the spitting in some degree continued laterally both became worse and the former was especially troublesome after midnight. He became debilitated and fell off in his flesh; taken ill, 23 April 1809; sent 3 May 1809 to hospital.
Folio 43: Richard Welsh, aged 40, private marine; taken ill at Plymouth; disease or hurt, on 10 April the debility was now considerable yet not near so great as might have been expected from so long an illness. The night sweat had not become worse. Blisters were applied on various parts of the thorax; taken ill, 5 February 1809; sent to hospital 3 May 1809 at Gibraltar.
Folio 44: Corporal Bailey, aged 32, private marine; taken ill at Majorca; disease or hurt, this man of a plethoric habit and phlogistic diathesis complains of headache. Was first attacked with an uneasiness and languor followed by a cold and hot stage. There was considerable pain along the spine and in the lower extremities; taken ill, 27 April 1809.
Folio 44: Charles Ablet, aged 18, private marine; taken ill at Majorca; disease or hurt, this man fell out of his hammock at night and hurt the hinder part of his head he did not appear in the sick birth until two days after when he complained of giddiness and sickness at stomach. The part which was bruised appeared tumid and flabby. But no particular pain was felt upon pressure. The nausea of the stomach had increased to vomiting. The pupil of the eye was not affected; taken ill, 29 April 1809; discharged 8 May 1809 to duty.
Folio 45: Patrick McAvoy, aged 16, Boy 3rd Class; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, whilst furling the mizzen topsail got his fingers of the right hand into a block by which the bone of the thumb was so shattered and the flesh so much lacerated that it was necessary to amputate it close to the first joint. The ring finger of the same hand was bruised and wounded with the nail torn off. The thumb was amputated in the usual way with two flaps to cover the end of the bone; taken ill, 4 May 1809; on 13 May 1809 appears healthy with good granulations and favourable discharged.
Folio 45: Thomas Henderson, aged 40, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, vertigo with nausea and occasional sickness at stomach. His tongue was a little furred and he was more thirsty than usual. His eyes appeared yellow; taken ill, 6 May 1809; on 13 May strength and appetite increasing.
Folio 46: John Boyce, aged 40, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, feverish heat, headache and [muturition?] attended with considerable heat in voiding the urine. This had been preceded by coldness and slight rigors; taken ill, 8 May 1809.
Folio 46: Mark Stead, aged 30, seaman; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, a tall rather thin and narrow chested man had felt ill for two or three days previous to his application, with general pains in his bones and soreness of the flesh. On his appearance he was flushed in the face had hot skin, thirst, foul tongue and headache. On 13 May free from the pain and difficulty of breathing; taken ill, 8 May 1809.
