Report of George Cooke, on 1 individual petition (Edward Sloper, father of the accused) and 1 collective petition (27 signatures including churchwardens, magistrates and citizens of Bristol), on behalf of Henry Sloper, herald painter, convicted at the Gloucestershire Quarter Sessions, of assault on Patience Pratten, aged 18, spinster. There is also a letter from R Hart Davis and a copy of the last will and testament of Joseph Pratten, father of the victim. Evidences supplied by John Peters; James Brooks, stone cutter; Rachael Coggins; and James Slucock; Grounds for clemency: Prisoner did not defend himself properly. Prosecutor's mother was not married to her father, though prosecutor swore she was, prisoner fears his character will be ruined forever. Sentence: 18 months imprisonment in Southleach Bridewell and to enter into a recognisance of £50 to keep the peace in respect of Patience Pratten. Recommendation: mercy. Folios 84-108.
