1824 Nov 17
Report of John Sargent on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (38 inhabitants of Shoreham, Sussex) on behalf of George Parker, tradesman and merchant, convicted at the [Chichester Quarter Sessions, Sussex] for the assault on 14 September 1824 of James Parsons, customs and excise officer. Letters from the duke of Richmond and the earl of Egremont are also included. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner was of good character and had never been guilty of any breach of the peace; the sentence would bring ruin to his business and his family, both dependent on him.
