Folio 231. Letter from John Kirkland, Clerk to the Southwell Rural District Council, to the Local Government Board, informing the Board that under instructions from the [Nottinghamshire] County Council the Rural District Council will take over the Highways from 3 March 1896. Three questions follow:
The Rural District Council wish to know if they can appoint and pay a surveyor of highways before that date.
Can an inspector of nuisances hold the office of surveyor of highways at the same time.
Will the balances of the surveyor of parish highways be credited to the several parishes, or will they merge into a common fund.
