Folios 227-228, Nottingham, Chairman of the Parish Council [Southwell Union] to the Local Government Board.
He asks the Board to answer 2 questions:
In the parish there is a parish council. There is no vestry clerk, nor an assistant overseer. They have a paid clerk to collect rates and act as clerk to the parish council. At the annual meeting on 15 April 1895 this clerk was made one of the two overseers. Can he be clerk and overseer at the same time?
Road side wastes were let to various villagers for grazing purposes and money went to the general funds. One of the occupiers of land adjoining one of the roads so let insists on grazing it himself. Is he justified in so doing?
Annotated.
