Folios 224-225. An internal memo of the Local Government Board referring to an extract from the report of Mr H Stevens, Local Government Inspector, after a visit to the Southwell Workhouse on 18 May 1895. It states there is no ward fit for fever cases of an infectious type, and no hospital in the vicinity.
Mr Stevens adds to this by stating that he thinks the Board should send frequent reminders about the lack of any infections hospital. He believes that if provision could be made for this near the workhouse then an isolation ward at the workhouse would be unnecessary. 17 June 1895.
Long annotations including note that the medical officer of health suggested acquiring two good cottages to hold isolation cases rather than providing a hospital.
