Folios 192-194. Draft letter from S B Provis, Assistant Secretary to the Local Government Board, to W Wright [William Wright], Chairman of the Southwell Rural District Council, of Fiskerton Manor [chairman of parish council]. It refers to the letters of 14 January 1895 and 1 February 1895 from Mr Wright regarding who is eligible as a tenant for allotments. The Board have no jurisdiction to determine such a question. Under the Allotments Act of 1887 and the Local Government Act of 1894 allotments may be provided for 'persons of the labouring population', which can be interpreted as 'engaged in manual labour'. Under the 1887 Act no person may hold an allotment exceeding 1 acre and it cannot be sub-let. Other legal considerations are discussed and parish councils should take these into consideration when framing their own regulations. For payments the council are referred to sections in the 1894 Act.
