Description

Folios 172-176. Letter from F W Adamson, secretary to the Parochial Committee of Epperstone, to the Local Government Board, about the sewerage at Epperstone. He thanks the Board for its letter enclosing copies of communications with Mr Kirkland, Clerk to the Rural Sanitary Authority, dated 4 September 1894 in which he states that Epperstone soil is not suitable for irrigation of sewage, and that there is no legal parochial council for the village.

As secretary of the committee he explains in detail how the committee was set up when the question of sewage arose in 1893 - at the request of the Rural Sanitary Authority. Included are lists of people on the committee, and resolutions passed at different dates. He cannot understand why the Rural Sanitary Authority now ignore the committee. The committee are not concerned about the mode of dealing with the sewage, but that an efficient scheme be carried out economically.

He asks that the Board take steps to secure a proper drainage scheme be put in place in the Autumn so that it will be in working order for the next spring.

He also says that the Parish Council Act will not give powers to execute a drainage system, and as the new District Council will practically be the same as the existing Rural Sanitary Authority there is nothing to gain by waiting.
