Grounds for clemency: the prisoner is of respectable parents, served in HM Army since 15 years of age (7th Welsh[?] fusiliers), served in the 'Spanish Campaign', has been wounded whilst serving, is paid a pension by the army, was taken as a prisoner of war in Madrid, has a regular discharge with good character, has a certificate of good character from the commander in chief and has a trade as a dyer 'tho not wishing to die according to his sentence'. Initial sentence: death. Folios 154-155.
