Report of Thomas Harrison on John Kelly alias John Rogers, convicted at the 'Adjourned Surrey Sessions at Newington' on 3 June 1822 for the theft of a shawl from Harriet Davies on 1 June 1822. Evidences supplied by the victim, Elizabeth Davies, sister of Harriet Davies; Thomas Williams, patrole and John Kelly, father of the prisoner. There are letters from Thomas Harrison [x2]; H Bennet; and H [Henry] Hobhouse; a sworn statement from Margaret Smith; notes of an investigation into the case held in the Magistrates Parlour at the Public Office, Union Hall; a hand drawn map of Union Street, Little Guildford Street, White Cross Street and Great Guildford Street [Southwark]; and a copy of 'Evidence for the prisoner'. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Recommendation: speaks in favour of mercy, has 'doubts of his [the prisoner's] guilt'. Folios 1-25. (See also HO 47/62/20, folios 341-342).
