Report of C Warren on 1 individual petition (Thomas Whitmore) on behalf of James Delway/James Dellway/James Delaway alias Thomas Edwards/Thomas Evans, convicted at the 'last' Denbighshire Assizes held at Ruthin for the theft of Wrexham and Oswestry Bank notes to the value £5 and a pocket book value 1/-, property of William Evans, miner of Llangollen on 18 March 1822. Evidences supplied by William Evans, Thomas Beresford and Francis Goodwin, constable. There is a note that the prisoner claims that the pocket book was put in his pocket whilst he was asleep. Grounds for clemency: Thomas Beresford, a waiter at the inn where the theft took place, allegedly stole the pocket book. Initial sentence: Transportation for life. Recommendation: not given. Annotated: 'May 31 1822, Rejected'. Folios 121-126.
