Report of W H Tinney, Deputy Recorder of New Sarum on 1 individual petition (Charles Jennings, the prisoner's father) and 1 collective petition (William Sanger and Joseph Sanger) on behalf of William Jennings (tried with John Jennings, his brother) convicted at the Salisbury Sessions held on 4 October 1821 for breaking into the shop and the theft of wearing apparel, property of William Bracher, shopkeeper on 24 August 1821. The prisoner is held on board the York, convict ship/hulk at Portsmouth. There is a covering letter from Charles Jennings; 2 depositions from William Jennings; a statement by William North taken by H Goodeve [x3] and a letter from J Beckett to J H Capper, regarding the circumstances of Jennings finding the stolen goods. Grounds for clemency: William North, Charles Godwin and John Bond, all prisoners have confessed to the crime and affirmed the innocence of Jennings. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy. Annotated: '1 May 1823, Rejected'. Folios 72-91.
