Report of Newman Knowlys, Recorder of London on 1 collective petition (15 persons, including the prisoner and prosecutor) on behalf of James Edrop, butcher, convicted at the Old Bailey in February 1822 for the theft of a gold watch, chain, seals and fob (pick-pocketing), value £30 property of John Middleton on 15 August 1820. Evidences supplied by: John Middleton, Joseph Wilfred Parkins, William Colton and George Taylor. There are sworn statements from Joseph Wilfred Parkins [x2], William Colton, constable of St Pancras and John Middleton. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner is innocent, this is a case of mistaken identity, of previous good character and the prisoner has a wife and infant children to support. Initial sentence: transportation for life. Recommendation: no further mercy as the evidence indicated highway robbery. Annotated: '7 June 1822, To be Transported'. Folios 60-71.
