Report of J Staunton, Recorder of Newark on 1 individual petition (Henry Moore) and 2 collective petitions (9 people, of Shardlow, [Derbyshire?] including the prisoner, judge and prosecutor and 11 people) on behalf of Thomas Pheasant, captain of 'a boat's crew', convicted at Newark on Trent 15 January 1812 for the theft of salt and malt from Humphrey Moore, William Brightmore and Thomas Robinson, employers. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner has a wife and 2 children dependant on him. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation speaks in favour of mercy. Folios 65-70.
