Title
Francis Chambre to Richard Hill.
Date
Ellesmere, 27th April, 1722
Description

He is now about Mr. Price's accounts again and will carry them on till Lady Day. The estreats, among which is Hill's post fine from Mr. Wycherley, are not yet come to the Sherrifs hands. He finds Paynton which Hill has lately given to his Nephew Thomas Hill, is a manor. As such it was conveyed to Mr. Robert Hill, and so Hill has conveyed it to Mr. Thomas Hill "But I don't find that my wife or her sisters die soe convey it to you. How this mistake happened I cannot tell but I and the rest of us conveyed as we were required without looking into the Title". As to shares of his sisters Nancy and Peggy which were last conveyed, he drew the conveyances, but therein pursued what had been done before, and in all these things the manor was omitted. The Manor ought to be looked after, for there is a fear that Captain Corbet of the Park has been enquiring after a barn built on the waste and may be introducing himself as lord of the soil, which he ought not to do. For some time past the tenants of Paynton have been attending at Corbet's Court Leet - that may be done without prejudice to Hill as lord of the soil, for one manor may be within another as to court leets, as is the case with Hill's at Weston Lullingfield, where Hill has the manor but his tenants appear at the court leet of Sir John Bridgman. All the daughters of Mr. Robert Hill being living the manor may still be conveyed by a fine, but not otherwise, two of them being wives.
