A programme made for the Open University (Open University programme reference E361/07). The programme was produced and introduced by Charles Parker, compiled from interviews conducted and gathered by Charles Parker. The production is by David Seligman for the BBC.
The programme concerns inner-city school provisions and experiences of immigrant non-white communities in the 1970s. People interviewed included African Caribbean, white English and Indian parents and children in Birmingham. Topics covered include: migration to Britain, racism in schools, comparison between the Indian and Caribbean education systems and the British system, differing levels of achievement between the racial groups, the need for teaching of black and Asian history in schools.
The discussions on the actuality recordings cover the above topics in more depth.
