Title
Ignatius Whyte to Ormond : written from Brussels
Date
12 June 1660
Description

Reports, at great length, what passed between the writer and Mr Thomas Scot [one of the Regicides] at Ostend, ... and some subsequent incidents, ... in the course of which the writer "so prevailed with him ... to cast himself at his Majesty's feet, and put himself into Sir Harry de Vic's hands; [as] that it will be in his Majesty's power either to gain the ablest man of the Commonwealth party, and the most obnoxious; and thereby to shew his clemency; ... [or] his Majesty may [else] fairly allege [that] he can pardon none; having left it to the Parliament to pardon, or exempt".

Adds that he never desired or contrived Scot's coming out of England; ... nor did he cross the seas with him, as Mr Bryan Cockaine [in MS.: "Breyan Cockin"] and Mr Cholmeley [in MS.: "Chumley"] can testify.
