The Weights and Measures Amendment Act, 1859 (22 and 23 Vict, c.56, section 4) gave quarter sessions boroughs the right to appoint inspectors of weights and measures with authority to act under the powers granted by 5 and 6 Wm. IV c.63, and to supersede any jurisdiction in these matters claimed by the county justices, on giving written notice of their intention to the clerk of the peace of the county.
