Description

On 28 February 1922 William Edward de Winton sold the Southover Estate (377a 0r 36p) to E C Fairweather and his wife Emily for £24,504 0s 10d, of which £10,650 was advanced as a loan by the vendor, increased on 26 August 1922. W E de Winton died on 30 August 1922. On 29 February 1924 the Fairweathers and their mortgagees sold Ponts Farm (151a 2r 6p) for £2700 to Fred Hayward, who on 30 March 1921 had purchased Goodsoal Farm and Swingate (182a 0r 30p) from Frank Piper, who had purchased it from the executors of Lady Margaret Cecil for £3500 on 25 March 1920. The title follows that described at AMS 6779/3/1 until 26 July 1945 when Mrs Margery Tugela Miller sold that part of Ponts Farm which had not already been sold to Cecil John Miles - AMS 6779/3/1), consisting of 111.299 acres, to Major Frank Webster Grainge of Redhill, who sold on for £8000 to Lt Col J E M Skinner of Wymondham in Norfolk on 29 November 1945. On 9 September 1949 he sold Long Wood, Yokeing Close Wood and Schemes Wood, 39.55 acres in all, to Cecil John Miles of Bunkers Hill Farm for £450. On 30 November 19512 Col R J P Thorne Thorne of Ponts Farm (to whom Col Skinner's title must have passed) sold Swingate Wood (2.119a) to Cecil John Miles for £42. On 24 September 1968 Cecil John Miles, then of Castle Farm, Pevensey, sold these four pieces of woodland to Mrs Marjory Jean Smith of Bunkers Hill Farm.
