Letter, 26 December 1771, from Richd. Fawcett, Looking Glass Maker, no. 68 Bermondsey street, Southwark, London to Mr Robert Scarborough, near Newbiggin in Ravenstonedale telling him his "Glass sets of[t] from London tomorrow the 28th. and will be at Kendal on Wednesday 8th. Jany. 72. Comes by P Caves Waggon, I give you this timely notice that you may have them Conveyed from Kendale as you Please. I suppose if you give no orders at all it will come by the Kirkby Carryer if you do have them Come by them, you had Better give them a particular Charge of Care, swayeing will not hurt them But as little shakeing as Possible, its not heavy but it will be Cumbersom ... there is a Common Prise for Glass according to the size, But most People Charge more for Large Glasses on account of the Great hazerd that is run in the Manufactg. ..."

Premises: all that messuage and tenement at Dubs in Ravenstonedale held of Sir James Lowther, bart. by yearly old rent of 5s. 7d. and new rent of 1s. 5s. and both fineable according to custom; also all tithes of corn, grain, hay, wool, lambs, calves, foals, bees and other tithes whatsoever arising from said messuage together with all oblations in lieu of tithes.
Consideration: £290 and £30.
Witnesses: Richard Murthwaite, Thos. Fothergill, Richard Thompson.
Endorsement: deed allowed by jury; Richard Fothergill, foreman.

Bastardy bond in £100, 8 July 1782, between (1) John Powley of Kirkby Stephen, innkeeper and churchwarden, Thomas Nelson and Thomas Wharton yeomen, both of Kirkby Stephen, overseers and (2) Richard Scarborough of Kirkby Stephen, surgeon.
Condition: £5 paid already and £10 to be paid by Richard Scarborough, putative father of child to be born to Isabella Thompson of Kirkby Stephen singlewoman.
Witnesses: Jeff Bowness, Joseph Tayler.

Request, 14 Dember [17]83, by Robt. Scarborough, Low Lane, Ravenstonedale for legal opinion of Mr Robinson about possible division of a pasture of which he enjoys two thirds and a majority of cattlegates without an Act of Parliament, which is likely to be too expensive for a pasture worth only £3 but being 40 acres capable of improvement.

Journal, 1801, of a Northern Expedition made by [ ? ] with cousin G Scarborough from London to Newcastle by "The Peggy" captained by John Bainbridge and then on to Low Lane via Durham, Bishop Auckland, Bowes and Stainmore by foot: comment re Greenwich Hospital and Woolwich" ... the warren containing Naval & Military Stores ... the Hulks are a deplorable picture of the depravity of some part of the community and the necessity of a Rigid Police ... The Essex side of the River is Flat & Uninteresting ... but the Kentish side is Variously Picturesque & Beautiful ..." etc.

Memorandum of agreement, 1 May 1819, between John Scarborough of Ravenstonedale and Anthony Fothergill of Brownber, Ravenstonedale about ending of dispute over who should repair length of road "much out of repair at north end of Burton or Thorny Lane, near Brownber."

Letter, 28 September 1826, from Richard Scarborough, Wickersley [near Rotherham, Yorkshire W R] to his cousin Thomas Scarborough at Low Lane, Ravenstonedale about being ill and containing family news: ref. to "the Heat of one of the Droughtiest Summers ever remember'd in these parts ...; "... my late uncle Thomas Scarborough's son John Scarborough is a steady young Man, he is out of his apprenticeship as a working Goldsmith and is saving money fast... and Robert the son of Uncle Robert has married a great Fortune, and resides at Rugby in opulence and Credit. My sister Mary and her Husband are tolerable in Health and their only Son Charles is out of his time as a surgeon and apothecary and has past his London Examinations creditably and I understand promises fair to be an ornament to his profession ... ." 1826.

Premises: all that farm consisting of messuage or dwelling house, barn, byer, stable, garden, orchard, and several closes now in occupation of (2). Covenants include: laying of lime, not converting into tillage more than now is and not to winter more sheep than his own stock.
Rent: £33 yearly.
Witnesses: Thomas Dodd, Ruth Scarborough.
Letter, undated from John Rennison, Wm. Hall, James Haygarth and Ths. Fawcett, "the poor of the Town of Ravenstonedale" expressing thanks to "you" [? ] and your brothers George & John for the great interst you and they have taken in our Behalf and for your unweried Exertions in opposing Those Would have Cruely Encroached on our privileges and driven us Houseless from the Place of our Birth to Seek a Shelter in the abodes of Wretchedness and We hope for the time to come That by our Humility and Sobriety and Industry We Shall Merit a Continuance of that faviour Which you have at this time so kindly Manifested .. ." n.d
